Kalamkariart.org began to initiate dialogue between artists, students, collectors and scholars on the rich traditions of Indian kalamkari textile arts. Through regular discussion and networking, we hope to disseminate knowledge and kalamkari-related resources to a wide audience, and to support an environment for the sustained practice and active exchange of this vibrant form of Indian cultural expression.

Kalamkariart.org is based on collaboration with the kalamkari art community - particularly in and around Sri Kalahasti, Andhra Pradesh in South India - and research developed by Cristin R. McKnight during her experience as a US Fulbright Scholar to India during the academic year 2004-2005. The goal of the site is to generate interest and dialogue surrounding kalamkari past, present and future that will continue beyond the scope of the initial Fulbright project.
